New Apple Powerbook Line Unveiled

Apple® today unveiled the fastest, most affordable PowerBook® line ever, featuring PowerPC G4 processors running up to 1.67 GHz, faster hard drives and a faster 8X SuperDrive™—all housed in the PowerBook’s signature aluminum enclosure. All new PowerBooks come standard with 512MB memory, faster graphics, integrated AirPort® 802.11g, Bluetooth 2.0 wireless networking and two new Apple patent-pending technologies—the scrolling TrackPad and the Sudden Motion Sensor.

This new powerbook line is just improving in an area which Apple already excel. They make some amazing laptops, and I’m always impressed whenever I see someone using one on the road. Credit to Apple for the update, and you can read more information here.

Greenday at Manchester  3

Greenday in Concert at Manchester Evening News Arena

I went to see Greenday in concert last night, at Manchester MEN arena. Generally, I’m not into that kind of music, however I really enjoyed the evening. I’d given their album a couple of listens the week before, so was fairly familiar with American Idiot.

The support band was New Found Glory, who I had heard fairly good things about. However, I thought they were terrible last night, talentless and very poor. It made me think that Greenday were going to be very similar, however I was pleasantly surprised. I presumed there would be more than one support band, but that wasn’t the case.

Greenday played all their usual songs from the latest album, and a few from older CD’s (such as Minority). Acoustics were great, and there were some superb special effects. Lots of fireworks, and huge flames emitting from the middle of the stage. Very impressive.

At one part, they pulled a few people from the audience, and asked them to play instruments on stage. They all sounded surprisingly good, and the lead singer let one lad keep the guitar he was playing. Just shows how many instruments they must get through!

All in all, I thought it was an outstanding evening. Greenday were great, and although the support band were appalling, it didn’t spoil the night for me. I’d certainly advise anyone considering going to see them to get their tickets bought!

Google Browser Rumours  0

Post Categories   Post Time 3 years, 6 months ago

Most of us have heard the rumous, fuelled by this article, stating that one of the lead developers of Firefox is now working primarily for Google. Personally, I can’t really see any reason why a company such as Google would start to employ someone with expertese in this field, if they were not planning some sort of desktop application.

iSystem Icon Set by David Lanham

David Lanham, the creator of one of my favourite icon sets, Somatic, has released a new system pack. It’s made primarily for OSX, but he’s also kindly included a Windows Icon set.

The icons are based on the stylings of the new iLife ‘05 package, and look very simple indeed. Very bright and colourful, they should compliment a theme such as Milk or Siro beautifully. They are currently available over at Icon Factory.

MailTrack Cease and Desist  2

Post Categories   Post Time 3 years, 6 months ago

As many of you probably do not know, a friend and I used to maintain a software package called “MailTrack“, a really simple PHP/MySQL E-Mail List manager. It was originally designed for a client who pulled out of the project at the last minute, without paying.

We were distributing it freely via Zone Network until last week, when we recieved what was effectively a Cease and Desist request from a company trading under the same name! Obviously, it’s fair enough. If I was trying to run a company, and my website was consistently outgunned in Google by a free GPL software solution, I would have considerable concerns.

Needless to say, we’ve taken the project offline until we have a chance to rename it. Although it sounds simple, the name ‘mailtrack’ is repeated so much throughout the code, it will be a fairly major challenge. Either way, I’ve only got 3 days until HotScripts (our primary source of interest/visitors) removes our 404′d website from their listings. Need to get my skates on. Any new name suggestions would be welcome.

Work Mounts Up  1

Post Categories   Post Time 3 years, 6 months ago

College work is seeming to mount up at the moment, and I’ve got a backlog of things to do. I imagine I’ll be working pretty hard for the next couple of days. Business coursework, and computing coursework (Terry’s Turkeys, cringe) are all fairly important to get done.

On top of that, I’m trying to get the next version of this blog online, sort out www.stylesuites.com and manage a few extra hosting clients. No rest for the wicked.
