Tsunami Update

Tsunami Map

I just thought with all the latest developments, it was time to post an update on the situation out in Indonesia. The map above basically shows the worst affected areas by the floods, as you can see, islands like Sri Lanka have been completely devestated.

The airport has been closed since the early hours of Tuesday morning after a plane carrying supplies hit a cow on the runway and damaged the aircraft’s landing gear. This is a large blow, as it means there have been significant delays in getting aid to the affected areas.

Yesterday, an Indian helicopter dropping food and water over the remote “Andaman and Nicobar” Islands was attacked by tribesmen using bows and arrows. This removes fears that the endangered tribal groups had been wiped out when massive waves struck their islands. Not surprisingly, noone was hurt by the arrows…

The heavy rains and continued flooding since the Tsunami have lead to the risk of waterbourne diseases such as Cholera, and the death toll is expected to rise rapidly once the floods clear and the landscape returns to normal.

As far as the death toll goes, British deaths are expected to rise to 199 over the coming weeks, with the total death toll now well over 200,000. You have to ask, how can something like this be allowed to happen?
