CostCo Trip
3 years, 5 months ago I went to CostCo today, it’s a huge superstore in Brighouse (they also have one in Leeds). The main reason for going was to buy a new BBQ for this Summer. It’s quite a good time to get one, because they haven’t bumped all the prices up yet. The last time I went to this store, it was about 5 years ago. I must admit that I was very impressed by the sheer scale of everything there. Ranging from industrial sized garden swimming pools to a 8×8 foot shed for your garden, they have everything.
I was also really impressed with the price of many of the packs of food and drink they have. In particular, being able to buy “Strathmore” mineral water for about 10p per bottle (usually between 60p and £1.00 in store). Strangest thing there? - Probably a huge Swarovski crystal chandelier which didn’t have a price tag on it - no surprise there then!
It’s certainly somewhere I’ll be returning to, next time that stash of cold beer starts to run low in the garage…

There are hardly any Cost Co’s over in the UK - Only two that I know of

Being a Texan-grown kid, I wasn’t familiar with CostCo until recently (they are slowly moving into Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club territory). Everyone I knew from the west coast and Washington-state areas always raved about the deals to be found at CostCo. I finally went into the one near me and asked if I could get a day pass to just browse around. They said no, so I just decided to get a card. I then wandered around the store and was severely under-impressed. There was nothing different than Sam’s Club. They even designed the store displays and fixtures exactly the same. For a single guy, neither of these clubs are useful–and honestly, I can’t tell the difference. Sure, they had some nice name-brand clothes for cheap, but NOTHING was my size. (Sam’s doesn’t carry smaller sizes, either.) Oh well.
