Apple Store Manchester

Post Categories   Post Time 3 years, 5 months ago

The first, remotely convenient, Apple store has been announced today. It will be located in the Manchester Trafford Centre, a large shopping complex off the centre of Manchester. This is only about 45 minutes drive away, so I’ll be looking forward to visiting it once it has opened it’s doors.

I know where I’ll be going to get that Dual 3ghz iMac for university next year!

Is the apple store in Leeds not convenient enough for you? Although I am aware of its limited size, and the fact it is full of students getting 10% discounts on their iPods.

  2. David Appleyard Says:

There isn’t an Apple store in Leeds!

  3. Josh Says:

Sure there is. Its on the outside of the Merrion centre (with the Morrisons) opposite the St Johns Centre.

I have been in it, and although it is nothing great to look at compared to the Santa Monica Apple store, I’m pretty sure it is there. Maybe it isn’t a “proper” Apple store, but they use the same prices as the Apple website, offer the discount to students and seem to have pretty sharp infomation about upcoming products (I went in to inquire about the Mac mini when I first heard it announced).

  4. David Brent Says:

I live around 15minutes away from the Trafford center in South Manchester, near Fallowfied (student City) and the like.

This is great news for us Mancunians - maybe it’s time to finally upgrade to a 15/17″ PowerBook from my 14″ iBook. This will be the perfect chance.

I only just ordered Tiger today, can you give me any advice about it? It is worth £80?

  5. David Appleyard Says:

Bit of a shame if you’ve bought it only to upgrade your Mac in the next few months!

It’s brilliant though. Fave features include the RSS Screensaver, and Safari 2.0. It’s all great. Worth ¬£80? Without a doubt.

  6. David Brent Says:

That’s what I thought. Probably a good excuse to put off my upgrade for a little while at least.

Thanks for the positive attitude towards Tiger. Imagine just recieving the payment confirmation email and then stumbling accross a Web site telling my why I shouildn’t have ordered it!

    PS: Like the new design!

  7. Nathan Says:

    Its Official.
Apple have accepted my CV for the Apple Store Trafford Centre.

    I cant wait!

  8. David Appleyard Says:

    Wow - Nice one Nathan!

What position did you apply for?

  9. Jamie Kelly Says:

    Hi Nathan,

I too have been asked to attend an interview for a Mac Genius position at the Trafford Centre… so I’ll see you on 25th July!

  10. Sam Says:

I’ve applied for the Mac specialist position at the traddord centre. Hope, they give me an interview - I have a degree in computing so i think i’m an ok candidate, not heard anything though….. do they apoint Geniuses first do you think?

  11. Jules Says:

Anyone know what date planned opening is, for either the Manchester or Sheffield stores? I presume if they’re recruiting now it must be soonish. Shame they’ve not gone for one in Leeds yet - missed some perfect opportunities to get a prime city centre spot. Maybe we’ll get one when we get a Fopp.

To confirm, there’s an Apple Centre near the Merrion but only open Mon-Sat. Leeds shops are very Apple free - John Lewis in the Trafford Centre already has an Apple section about as big as the Leeds apple centre, plus the MicroAnvika concession in Selfridges.

  12. James Says:

The Apple shop in Leeds is small and scruffy. The staff can be pretty unhelpful and rude unless you’re in to spend ¬£¬£¬£.

  13. Jason Says:

There is not an Apple store in Leeds. Look on Apple’s website - they don’t have one there - it must be a reseller - not an official Apple store.

  14. Jules Says:

There is an Apple Centre in Leeds (by the Merrion) - which is not the same as an Apple Store. And I would agree with most of the criticism here.
I think they have had to many years of dealing with people using Macs for business, that they haven’t got used to the idea of casual users buying Macs again. Otherwise they might open on a Sunday, or late-night Thursday, and might try and demo the equipment a bit more. Crap as PC World may be, their salesmen do try and sell stuff (just not Macs - because the commission is rubbish). I guess maybe kids coming in wanting to try iPods gets annoying, but that’s retail.

Photos of the Manchester store up on the Macworld site which suggests in must be nearing completion - 2 doors down from Selfridges.

    Hi all,

    From: http://www.ifoapplestore.com/

“The Trafford Centre (UK) management staff is saying the Apple store will open this Saturday, the 19th, although Apple hasn’t yet posted any announcement.”

    Intruiging…

  16. Mike Says:

    Now confirmed:

    See you there!

  17. Ross Barber Says:

Just got back from the Trafford Centre opening, I got there at 8:15 and there was only about 100 people in front of me in the queue. The opening was a lot of fun and I don’t think I’ve seen so many white earbuds in one place!

    Anyway…

For all of you that couldn’t make it or curious here are a number of photo’s that I took while I was there.

  18. Al Perry Says:

The Leeds Apple Store is a KRCS Reseller just outside the Merrion Centre. I would concur that the staff are somewhat unhelpful on occasions, but they are all young lads (early 20,s) so what do you expect. All I would say is go in clear about what you want, tell them in no uncertain terms and you will be OK.
